Origins

Good Friday, or Great/Holy Friday, is a Christian celebration marking the crucifiction of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated on the Friday before Easter, and marks the end of Lent.

It may be a sinful thing, dear reader, but I have in fact lied to you in the title of this article. You may have expected an article on one single celebration, that being Good Friday, however this piece aims to serve as an explanation of the whole of Easter and its related celebrations.

So what is there to look at?

Well, these things differ between the various denominations of Christianity, both in what is observed and when these events are observed, however they tend to be broadly categorised in Eastern and Western rites.
